KYRGYZSTAN: PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE SENDS DRAFT LAW TO PARLIAMENT
November 3, 2009: the Parliamentary Committee sent the draft law on Kyrgyzstan's signature of the Second Optional Protocol abolishing the death penalty for consideration of the Parliament. According to the draft law, Kyrgyzstan's joining the Protocol is the final action in abolishment of the death penalty in Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyzstan has abolished death penalty and replaced it with life sentence on 25 June 2007 with the purpose of humanization of criminal legislation. (Sources: AKIpress, 03/11/2009)
