ALGERIA: HEAD OF QAIDA SENTENCED TO DEATH
November 13, 2009: the Algerian Criminal Court sentenced to 49 al-Qaida of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) members to death, according to the official Algeria Press Service (APS) news agency.
The only person identified was Abdelmalek Droukdel, head of AQIM. The men were sentenced for the April 11, 2007, bomb attack in Algiers, which led to the death of 11 and injury of over 100. (Sources: Chinaview.cn, 14/11/2009)
