MISSOURI (USA): JOHN E. WINFIELD EXECUTED
June 18, 2014: John E. Winfield, 46, Black, was executed.
Winfield was executed by lethal injection at 12:01 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m., a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Public Safety said.
Winfield took four or five deep breaths as the drug was injected, puffed his cheeks twice and then fell silent, all in a matter of seconds.
Winfield was sentenced to death on September 18, 1998 in the September 9, 1996 shooting death of Arthea Sanders and Shawnee Murphy, who were giving hospitality to his ex-girlfriend and mother of his 2 children, Carmelita Donald, who was also shot, but survived, though being blinded. Winfield becomes the 5th inmate to be put to death this year in Missouri, the 75th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1989, the 22nd inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1381st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
