MAURITANIA: COURT SLAMS DEATH SENTENCE TO TWO RAPISTS OF UNDER-AGED GIRL
July 16, 2015: Two people convicted of the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Mauritania were given the death sentence by the Criminal Court of Nouakchott while their accomplice was sentenced to 12 years in jail due to the fact he is under-age, a judicial source disclosed in Nouakchott.
The case dates back to December 2014 when Zainab was intercepted as she was returning from Koranic school by the three who abused her.
After raping her, the three burnt the little girl so that she canât be identified.
The incident had triggered extreme anger and outrage in Nouakchott with demonstrators demanding the harshest possible punishment against the criminals who were arrested by the police a few days later. (Sources: APA, 16/07/2015)
