ITALY: PROTOCOL ABOLISHING DEATH PENALTY IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES RATIFIED
March 3, 2009: Italy ratified Protocol 13 to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
''This Protocol bans the death penalty in all circumstances, and Italy is the 41st European country to take this important step which consolidates the death penalty-free zone throughout Europe,'' declared on this occasion the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis.
