BANGLADESH: HC DECLARES MANDATORY DEATH PENALTY UNCONSTITUTIONAL
March 2, 2010: Justices Imman Ali and Abdul Awal of the Bangladeshi High Court declared all laws with the mandatory death penalty unconstitutional and stayed the execution of a minor for two months. Shukur Ali, 14, of Manikganj, was sentenced to death in 2001 by a Manikganj district judge for raping and killing Sumi Akter in Sibrampur of Manikganj in 1997.
