TEXAS (USA): CONVICTED COP KILLER EXECUTED
March 11, 2010: A convicted cop killer was executed by lethal injection in Texas, state prison authorities said. Joshua Maxwell, 31, was pronounced dead at 6:27 pm (2327 GMT), nine minutes after he was administered the lethal concoction, prison officials said.
According to Texas Department of Criminal Justice records, Maxwell and his girlfriend in 2000 shot and killed an off-duty deputy sheriff, dumped his body behind a San Antonio shopping center, stole his cruiser and used his credit card to get 400 US dollars in cash.
The couple were arrested a few days later after a car chase and shootout in San Francisco, California.
The personal effects of the slain police officer were found in their stolen car.
The records show that Maxwell, a father of two children, and his girlfriend had already robbed and killed another man a few weeks earlier in the state of Indiana.
Maxwell was the fourth inmate executed in Texas so far this year, and the 451st since the US Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.
Texas has executed more people than any other state. (Sources: Afp, 11/03/2010)
