BANGLADESH: 12 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR NOAKHALI DOUBLE MURDER
March 23, 2016: A court in Bangladesh convicted 12 people and sentenced them to death for killing two people in 2007.
Judge of the Noakhali Additional District and Session Judge Court-2, ANM Morshed Khan handed down the verdict, reported UNB.
According to the prosecution, some miscreants intercepted mobile phone shop owner Firoz Kabir Miron, his brother Shamsul and an employee of the shop Sumon Pal and picked them up in a microbus from Maijdee Bazar on February 1, 2007.
The assailants stabbed Miron and Sumon to death and looted Tk 13 lakh in cash and some mobile phone sets from their possession.
Sudharam, father of Miron, filed two separate cases in this connection.
Police later submitted a chargesheet against 22 people.
After examining the records and witnesses, the judge handed down the verdict acquitting 10 other accused as allegation brought against them could not be proved. (Sources: NTVonline, 23/03/2016)
