SOMALIA: EX-SHABAB MEDIA OFFICER SENTENCED TO DEATH PENALTY
March 26, 2016: The High Military Court of Somalia sentenced Ex-Shabab media officer, Hassan Hanafi to a death penalty on his involvement of killing journalists in the capital earlier after he took appeal from the first rank military court which sentenced his to death penalty, officials said.
Hassan Hanafi Haji was accused of being behind the killing of many journalists who were operating in Somalia when Hassan was working with Al-Shabab militant group and the court proved his accusations according to the officials.
âWhen the court listened to the criminal cases of Hassan Hanafi, Ex-Shabab media officer, it found him guilty of committing the crime against journalists, it agreed to the decision of the first ranking court, that was a death penaltyâ, Chairperson of the High Military Court, Col. Liban Ali Yarow said.
Hassan himself admitted his involvement in killing many of the journalists who most of them were killed in the Somali capital Mogadishu during his term in the Shabab. (Source: SONNA, 26/03/2016)
