PAKISTAN: MURDERER GETS DEATH, TERROR CONVICTS JAIL SENTENCES
March 31, 2016: Courts in Karachi handed down the death sentence to a murder convict and a 14-year jail term to two terror convicts.
The death sentence was awarded by the court of the District and Sessions Judge (Central) after it convicted a murder accused, Nadeem, for the 2009 killing of man named Shoaib.Â
The murder had taken place in the Rizvia police station limits, and a co-accused, Khurram Akbar, still remains in hiding. Â
While the court condemned Nadeem to death and imposed a Rs500,000 fine as compensation for Shoaibâs family, it also issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Khurram Akbar with directives to the case IO to produce him in court at the next hearing.
The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, housed at the central prison premises, awarded 14-year imprisonment each to two terrorists described as activists of a banned militant outfit.Â
The convicts, Abdul Hafiz alias Hafiz and Mehboob Alam, were arrested in 2013 after a police encounter in the Baldia Town police limits.Â
Both were tried for charges pertaining to attempted murder, police encounter and possession of illegal weapons.
Ruling that the prosecution had aptly proven the charges, the court sentenced Hafiz and Mehboob to each serve 14 years behind bars. (Sources: thenews.com.pk, 01/04/2016)
