GEORGIA (USA): JOSHUA DANIEL BISHOP EXECUTED
March 31, 2016: Joshua Daniel Bishop, 41, White, was executed.
Bishop was put to death by lethal injection at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center for the June 25, 1994 murder of Leverett Morrison, 35.
Bishop was 19 when he and 36-year-old Mark Braxley murdered Morrison during the attempt to steal his car. During questioning by law enforcement, Bishop also confessed to being partially responsible for the June 9, 1994 death of Ricky Willis.
Only Braxley was charged and ultimately convicted of the Willis murder. Bishop was convicted of killing Morrison and sentenced to death in 1996.
Braxley pleaded guilty and is serving a sentence of life with parole. Bishop was never tried on charges of killing Wills, but evidence of Wills' murder was used to secure a death sentence for the Morrisonâs case.
Bishop and Braxley said they killed Wills because he he'd had sexual contact with Bishop's mother, who was a prostitute and drug and alcohol addict.
Bishop becomes the 3rd inmate to be put to death this year in Georgia, the 63rd overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983, the 10th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1432nd overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
